Here are just a few pictures from our two-week summer science camp program at Sacred Hearts school in Lahaina.
Summer 2020 plans are already in progress due to the overwhelming response! We are planning on expanding the program and doubling the camp length. It’s a great day for SCIENCE! Today I’m joined by thousands of kids in the California state capitol, where the Sacramento State Scientist Day takes place annually. The Women In Mining group (WIM- California Chapter) that I am a Board member of hosts a booth every year to teach participants about the importance of mining and the use of rocks and minerals in our daily lives. Today we are making toothpaste with some common household ingredients like baking soda, and Calcite, an extremely common mineral in the earths crust.
Geology, rocks and minerals are all part of the Next Generation Science Standards (NGSS) 4th grade curriculum. If you are interested in lessons plans or having Vicki White the Science Lady come to your school to have this amazing lesson, email us at [email protected] ! |
